Aeration
Basins
Purpose: The
aeration basins are where the biological treatment activity occurs.
After preliminary treatment, the wastewater flows to the aeration
basins where it is mixed with the return
activated sludge to create the biological mass or mixed liquor.
Air is bubbled through the mixed liquor to provide oxygen for the
biological activity. The bottom dimensions are 50' x I00', the
operating water depth is 15' and the working volume is 1.27 million
gallons per basin.
